I have been extremely impressed with how easy and fast everything is. It’s very user friendly and extremely intuitive. They’ve been able to make it so that just about anybody can figure out how to do it with just a couple clicks and a very small tutorial.
Currently, we are trying to open more locations. Any new pharmacies we open will definitely start as a telepharmacy. No question.
In terms of being a pharmacy owner, telepharmacy is like a dream come true. The business model is fantastic!
Telepharmacy, or remote pharmacy, is the way to go. With reimbursements going down, it’s a good idea to go with telepharmacy.
Telepharmacy helps create a new patient-pharmacist relationship that wasn’t possible before. I highly recommend retail telepharmacy to any pharmacy owners or pharmacists.
Sav Mor Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy chain located in central and southeast Illinois owned by David Falk. For Dave, pharmacy is all he’s ever known, as he grew up in a family-owned and operated pharmacy. Angela, Dave’s partner-in-crime, starting working at Sav Mor as a pharmacist after receiving her Doctorate of Pharmacy. Together they both identified that Illinois has a pharmacy access problem.
“Here in Atwood it’s been well over 15 years since a pharmacy existed,” Dave said. “A generation, if you will, have traveled well over 10 miles each way to get a prescription filled.”

Atwood, Illinois is a rural town of 1,200 people located in central and western Illinois. While Main St. is not what it used to be, there is a clinic in town. In the past, patients that receive a prescription from the medical center didn’t have local access to a pharmacy. They had to travel out of town to acquire prescription medication. Until now, that is.
“We’re focusing on telepharmacy to bring pharmaceutical services back to rural communities like Atwood and the people here love it,” he continued. “They are pleased that we’ve brought a pharmacy to their town.”
The pharmacy is located across the parking lot from the medical clinic, and it also features an ample selection of over-the-counter drugs, various novelty items and a drive-through window.
“They’re so excited to have something close by where they don’t have to travel,” said Angela Falk when speaking about how much patients love having a local pharmacy. “Even if they don’t have a prescription to pick up, just coming in to get over-the-counter items or take their blood pressure or speak with Crystal the technician — they love it.”

“It has to come down to the convenience of the patient,” said Dave. “To make a patient adherent, access has to be number one. And by providing access we’re helping patient adherence.”
