I have been extremely impressed with how easy and fast everything is. It’s very user friendly and extremely intuitive. They’ve been able to make it so that just about anybody can figure out how to do it with just a couple clicks and a very small tutorial.
Currently, we are trying to open more locations. Any new pharmacies we open will definitely start as a telepharmacy. No question.
In terms of being a pharmacy owner, telepharmacy is like a dream come true. The business model is fantastic!
Telepharmacy, or remote pharmacy, is the way to go. With reimbursements going down, it’s a good idea to go with telepharmacy.
Telepharmacy helps create a new patient-pharmacist relationship that wasn’t possible before. I highly recommend retail telepharmacy to any pharmacy owners or pharmacists.
Dale Colee was approached by Crossing Healthcare, a community health improvement center, to open a pharmacy inside their new clinic in Decatur, Illinois. As a pharmacist and an independent pharmacy owner, Dale wanted to help the clinic, but opening a new pharmacy had to make financial sense, too. That’s when Dale found out about telepharmacy.
“Independent pharmacies need to adapt to patient needs and technology trends, and we are excited to bring this to the Decatur area,” said Dale, pharmacist-in-charge at Colee’s Community Pharmacy.

Colee’s Community Pharmacy is a retail telepharmacy located within Crossing Healthcare, a 340B clinic. The covered entity features a full-service clinic that serves both adults and children and includes OB-GYN and radiology services. Lauren Young, Dale’s daughter, is the manager of Colee’s Community Pharmacy.
“They came to us,” Lauren said, in reference to why they opened a telepharmacy inside of the 340B clinic. “They wanted their patients to be more adherent and figured if the patients have to physically pass by the pharmacy when they’re leaving, they’re more apt to get their prescription filled on a timely basis.”
Not only do the patients benefit from having a pharmacy in the 340B clinic, but the medical center benefits, as well.
“The physicians have really gotten a chance to know Crystal, our technician, and they talk with her about patient needs and she’s able to reciprocate what the pharmacy needs and wants as well,” she said. “Whenever you’re not on the same campus sometimes it’s hard to get your needs met.”
Lauren is also amazed at the software’s ease of use.
“We thought our 65-year old pharmacist would be the hardest person to train and luckily the system is very easy,” she said. “We love it!”
