I have been extremely impressed with how easy and fast everything is. It’s very user friendly and extremely intuitive. They’ve been able to make it so that just about anybody can figure out how to do it with just a couple clicks and a very small tutorial.
Currently, we are trying to open more locations. Any new pharmacies we open will definitely start as a telepharmacy. No question.
In terms of being a pharmacy owner, telepharmacy is like a dream come true. The business model is fantastic!
Telepharmacy, or remote pharmacy, is the way to go. With reimbursements going down, it’s a good idea to go with telepharmacy.
Telepharmacy helps create a new patient-pharmacist relationship that wasn’t possible before. I highly recommend retail telepharmacy to any pharmacy owners or pharmacists.
Zearing, Iowa is a rural community of about 560 residents located in the heart of the Midwest. For nearly 2 decades, the local Story Medical Clinic operated without a pharmacy, and patients had to drive more than 20 minutes each direction to fill their medications. Realizing the city’s need for additional medical services, Mary O’Connor wanted change.
As the Nurse Practitioner at Story Medical Clinic, Mary noticed that not having access to a local pharmacy affected the overall health of the patients as medication adherence rates had gone down over time.
With the goal to provide an improved wellness experience, Mary contacted NuCara Pharmacy who agreed to open a telepharmacy in Zearing. The second of its kind in Iowa, Zearing’s telepharmacy operated out of an exam room for a year while an adjacent building was being renovated to use as the pharmacy’s permanent location.
“It has helped to revitalize Main Street in our tiny community,” Mary said in a letter of recommendation. “We now have a thriving clinic, pharmacy, convenience store, and at least two more businesses planned in the near future. The most important thing, however, is the residents of this community have quality health care right here at home with access to needed medications to manage their health.”
